The Japanese and Chinese governments held “high-level consultations on maritime affairs” in Otaru City, Hokkaido, on May 10. Participants discussed the issue of maritime plastic waste, which will be a major item on the agenda of the Group of 20 summit meeting slated for Osaka in June. The two countries agreed to jointly conduct a study on maritime waste in China in autumn of this year.
