The Yomiuri Shimbun on May 13 learned the overall picture of the 11th proposal under consideration by the government’s Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding. The proposal focuses on the establishment of a system for the government to certify education programs provided by universities and others to cultivate experts in the AI sector. The proposal also includes a plan for the government to provide support to all elementary, junior high, senior high, and special-needs schools wishing to offer Internet-based remote education.

The latest proposal is the first in about two years since June 2017. Kaoru Kamata, chairman of the council and former president of Waseda University, will submit the proposal to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on May 17. (Abridged)
