Foreign firms account for more than half in patent applications filed in Japan

Battles are intensifying over intellectual property rights in the space sector. With the private sector broadening its footprint in space development, the number of patent applications has been on the rise in Japan, the U.S., and Europe and tripled over the past ten years worldwide. In Japan, Boeing and other foreign companies are filing for patents to claim broader interests, accounting for more than half of the total number of patents filed.
