Kurita Water Industries (Nakano Ward, Tokyo) acquired Avista Technologies, Inc., a leading American supplier of water treatment chemicals, to expand its market reach in the U.S. and the U.K. by capitalizing on Avista’s marketing network and brand recognition. With the “Sustainable Development Goals,” adopted by the United Nations, drawing global attention, it expects demand for the effective use of water resources to grow.

In March, Kurita also acquired U.S. Water Services, Inc. for about 30 billion yen to expand its business operations and market in the water treatment business targeting the food industry.

The two acquisitions are expected to raise the U.S. share of Kurita’s business to 20% in fiscal 2019. (Abridged)
