OECD members have failed to agree on a unified statement in support of free trade, due to objections from the US.

However, they did agree on a statement backing principles and recommendations for the use of artificial intelligence.

Ministers from the 36 member nations of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development wrapped up a two-day meeting in France on Thursday.

This is the third straight year that OECD ministers have failed to agree on a unified statement in support of free trade.

The division on the issue comes as Japan prepares to host the Group of 20 summit in Osaka next month.
