President Trump arrives in Japan

All national dailies on Sunday gave front-page play to the arrival in Tokyo on Saturday evening of President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, predicting that Prime Minister Abe, while welcoming the President as the first state guest in the Reiwa Era, will demonstrate the strong alliance between the United States and Japan through bilateral talks and other activities. Yomiuri wrote that in his remarks to a reception at Ambassador Hagerty’s official residence in Tokyo on Saturday, the President reportedly stated that the United States’ alliance with Japan is very special and so is his relationship with Prime Minister Abe, adding that he and the First Lady are pleased to celebrate the start of the Reiwa Era.
