President Trump plays golf with PM Abe

NHK and all commercial broadcasters reported that President Trump and Prime Minister Abe played golf together at a course in Chiba Prefecture on Sunday morning, commenting that golf has become a quasi-tradition when the two leaders meet. This was their fifth round of golf together since the President took office in 2017, noted the networks, and the most recent time they played was in Washington in late April. President Trump arrived at the course in Marine One and was greeted by Abe. Veteran Japanese professional golfer Isao Aoki reportedly joined them.

Before leaving the Kantei for the golf course this morning, Abe told reporters that he wants to further strengthen the unshakeable U.S.-Japan alliance in the Reiwa Era through the President’s latest visit to Japan. Upon his return to the Kantei after playing golf, PM Abe told the press: “It was a little hot today. But it was nice weather and we were able to enjoy golf at a beautiful course. We were also able to have candid exchanges of opinion in a very relaxed atmosphere.”

President Trump reportedly posted a tweet on the outing: “Great morning of golf with Prime Minister @AbeShinzo at Mobara Country Club in Chiba, Japan!” he wrote. The network added that accompanying photos showed the President shaking hands with the premier and watching him putt.
