President Trump meets with abductees’ families

NHK broadcast live the President’s meeting with the families of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea. The President reportedly told the families that he agreed with Prime Minister Abe to work together to make progress in efforts to bring their loved ones home. Abe thanked the President and the First Lady for meeting with the families again after their previous trip to Tokyo in 2017 and bringing up the abduction issue at the second U.S.-DPRK summit in Hanoi. Sakie Yokota, the mother of Megumi Yokota who was abducted at the age of 13 in 1977, expressed her deep appreciation to the President for bringing up the abductions at his talks with DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and said that she has great confidence in the President.
