Gov’t to increase subsidy to DPFP

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications announced on May 24 that it will provide 206 million yen, the remainder of the subsidy for fiscal 2019 that was supposed to be provided to the Liberal Party, to the Democratic Party for the People (DPFP) following the former’s dissolution after merging with the latter. The annual subsidy to the DPFP will increase from 5.406 billion yen to 5.612 billion yen. The party will receive 1.42 billion yen (an increase of 68 million yen) in the second tranche in July. The subsidy that was provided to the Liberal Party in the first tranche in April but not used by the party was also transferred to the DPFP.
