On May 26, 2019, the Okinawa Police arrested Juston Gardner Jr. (phonetic), a 22-year-old U.S. Air Force member stationed at the U.S. military’s Kadena base, for violation of the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol). The suspect allegedly drove his car while intoxicated in the Shiromaecho district of Okinawa City. He denies the charge, saying, “I thought I had already sobered up.” The allegation is that around 0:50 a.m. on May 26, the suspect drove his car under the influence of alcohol in Okinawa City with the amount of alcohol over the legal limit (0.15 mg per liter of exhalation).

The police noticed the suspect was driving straight although his turn signal was on. While questioning him, officers smelled alcohol on his breath.
