The Yokohama municipal government, which is exploring the possibility of hosting an integrated resort (IR) featuring a casino, on May 27 released draft plans received from business operators. All 12 of the Japanese and international business operators and groups that had submitted plans chose Yamashita Pier, in the city’s Naka Ward, as the site for setting up an IR. They projected that the opening of an IR would have an annual economic ripple effect of up to some 1.65 trillion yen. But the municipal government remains firm in its stance that no decision to invite an IR has been made and said the submitted plans only “provide a reference for decision-making”.
