Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on May 31 held a telephone conference with Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to exchange opinions on the Middle Eastern situation. Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates is at odds with Iran. The prime minister also spoke with Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, which is hostile toward Iran, on May 30. It seems the prime minister is laying the groundwork for his visit to Iran in mid-June, the scheduling of which is underway. The prime minister and the crown prince agreed on close cooperation for peace and stability in the region amid escalating tensions in the Middle East fueled by hostility between the U.S. and Iran.
