Tokyo, June 5 (Jiji Press)–The Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren, said Wednesday that its hospitalized chairman, Hiroaki Nakanishi, has been diagnosed with lymphoma.
Nakanishi, 73, also chairman of electronics and machinery giant Hitachi Ltd. <6501>, aims to return to work in autumn after receiving chemotherapy at a hospital in Tokyo, according to the biggest group of employers in the nation.
Keidanren will not appoint an acting chairman as it expects Nakanishi to recover fully.
According to Keidanren, Nakanishi was hospitalized on May 21 for medical examinations and diagnosed with lymphoma on Saturday.
After receiving inpatient treatment at the hospital for one to two months, he is due to continue treatment as an outpatient.
In a bid to concentrate on his treatment, Nakanishi will cancel important events, including a trip to France in July to attend a meeting of leaders of business organizations from the Group of Seven major industrial countries.
He will also skip Hitachi’s general shareholders meeting on June 19.
