All national dailies wrote that according to the Defense Ministry, Russian military bombers violated Japan’s territorial airspace twice on Thursday. First the two aircraft intruded on Japan’s airspace off Okinawa, and later one of them violated its airspace off Hachijoma island before heading toward Russia via the coast of Hokkaido. While the planes reportedly ignored warnings by ASDF fighters, no dangerous behavior was reported on either side. The Russian Defense Ministry reportedly dismissed Japan’s protest by saying that there was no intrusion of airspace by its TU-95 bombers since they strictly abided by international law while traveling near the Japanese archipelago.
