Japan, Russia hold subcabinet-level talks on joint economic activities in Northern Territories

NHK reported this morning that ahead of the summit meeting between Prime Minister Abe and President Putin to be held on the margins of the G20 Osaka Summit, Deputy Foreign Minister Mori, prime minister’s assistant Hasegawa, and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Morgulov held subcabinet-level talks in Moscow yesterday on joint economic activities in the Northern Territories. Mori told reporters after the meeting that they were able to make preparations for constructive discussions to take place at the bilateral summit and that they talked about the details of joint economic projects. Mori also said that he lodged a protest with Morgulov over the two Russian bombers that intruded into Japanese airspace twice yesterday.
