Asahi front-paged the draft of a joint declaration that Prime Minister Abe and Chinese President Xi are expected to release following their meeting in Osaka this afternoon. The two leaders will set forth in the declaration their resolve to pursue mutual cooperation as “eternal neighbors.” The five-point document will reportedly outline Xi’s plan to travel to Japan next spring as a state guest, the two nations’ mutual efforts to make the East China Sea as a “sea of peace, friendship, and cooperation, their commitment to taking a coordinated approach on the economic front, and increased communication between the two peoples through various exchange programs.

In a related development, Yomiuri wrote that Foreign Minister Kono and his Chinese counterpart Wang spoke by phone yesterday and affirmed coordination to make the summit between Abe and Xi and the G20 summit a success.
