Japan biz leader seeks swift resolution to tensions with S. Korea

Osaka, July 9 (Jiji Press) — Japanese business leader Nobuyuki Koga Tuesday expressed hopes for a swift resolution to tensions between Japan and South Korea over Tokyo’s export controls.

“I’m closely watching the situation, while hoping for a swift and peaceful resolution,” Koga, chairman of the Board of Councillors of the Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren, said at a press conference in Osaka.

Tokyo last week tightened its controls on semiconductor materials exports to South Korea, a measure that drew strong backlash from Seoul.

Koga said continued economic exchanges between Japan and South Korea will be a key factor to foster a relationship of trust between the two countries.
