ROK gov’t list shows 156 cases of illegal export of sensitive materials in last 4 years

Fuji TV reported today that it has obtained a list compiled by the ROK government showing there had been 156 cases of illegal export of sensitive materials in the last four years until March 2019. Materials for producing the VX nerve agent used in the assassination of DPRK leader Kim Jong Un’s half-brother Jong Nam were smuggled to Malaysia and other countries, while hydrogen fluoride, which is included among the materials Japan has tightened controls on, was exported to the United Arab Emirates and other places. Fuji TV pointed out that Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Nogami stated this morning that the GOJ is aware of several cases of the ROK’s mismanagement of exports but refrained from commenting on specific cases.
