Prime Minister Shinzo Abe delivered a stump speech in Hiroshima City on July 14. While enumerating past prime ministers hailing from Hiroshima Prefecture, Abe extolled Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Policy Research Council Chairperson Fumio Kishida, who is elected from Hiroshima, saying, “It’s Mr. Kishida’s turn in the Reiwa Era.”

The prefecture is home to former Prime Ministers Hayato Ikeda and Kiichi Miyazawa. Abe touched on them and said: “Hiroshima Prefecture has been supporting the LDP and Japan. Such people have led Japan.” He then referred to Kishida as a candidate for prime minister in the Reiwa Era.
