TOKYO — Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday he will visit France from Aug. 23 to attend a summit of the Group of Seven industrialized nations.

Referring to the summit of the Group of 20 advanced and emerging economies he chaired in June in western Japan, Abe said, “Upon the success of Osaka, I’d like to lead candid discussions among the leaders on such topics as the promotion of free trade, environmental conservation and regional issues such as North Korea and Iran.”

France will host a G-7 summit in Biarritz from Aug. 24 to 26, followed by a G-20 gathering.
