NHK reported today that American swimmer Anthony Ervin, who won a gold medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and two gold medals in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, visited Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, this morning and gave swimming lessons to elementary and junior and senior high school students. Setagaya Ward is the host town of Team USA for the Olympic and Paralympic Games next year. Ervin taught the students how to swim freestyle and later joined them in a relay race, eliciting enthusiastic cheers from the audience. At the end of the clinic, Ervin thanked the Japanese people for giving him such a warm welcome whenever he visits Japan. He said he was moved by the students’ love of sports and eagerness to improve.
