Asahi reported online that a blue-ribbon panel at the Education Ministry has put together a recommendation calling for the Japanese government to make a swift announcement on its participation in the U.S. project to send humans back to the Moon. The panel reportedly emphasized that an early commitment is essential to make sure that Japanese astronauts will be able to land on the Moon in the near future. The panel reportedly noted that Japan can contribute to America’s lunar exploration initiative in such areas as the development of unmanned vehicles for carrying supplies to the Gateway orbital platform.
