78% say Japan is “trustworthy,” MOFA public opinion poll of five Middle Eastern countries

On Aug. 29, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced the results of the public opinion poll it conducted in five countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa, including Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. Each of the countries surveyed is home to many Japanese companies. A total of 78% of respondents said that Japan is either “very trustworthy” or “generally trustworthy.” A total of 77% of pollees also said that their nation’s ties with Japan are either “very friendly” or “generally friendly.” [The poll was taken from February to May this year by telephone. Responses were received from a total of about 3,000 people.]
