Tokyo, Sept. 3 (Jiji Press)–The Japanese government adopted Tuesday a new “Cool Japan” strategy featuring a plan to create a private-sector organization that will play a central role in promoting the initiative designed to spread the attractions of the country to others.

The envisaged private-sector body will facilitate cooperation among municipalities, businesses and investors for the strategy and conduct market research and analysis, officials said.

The new strategy, which was adopted at a meeting of the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters, seeks to promote brand recognition of Japan and strengthen the country’s soft power by increasing foreign fans of the country.

Saying that Japan has many things which are attractive to foreigners but little known among Japanese people, the strategy underlines the need for creating content recognizable to people abroad.

It also calls for utilizing social media and other digital technologies to drive the Cool Japan initiative.

The government will also establish a strategic council on the Cool Japan strategy to be chaired by the minister in charge of the initiative.
