At its board meeting held on Aug. 31, the Japan Innovation Party [Nippon Ishin] endorsed the reappointment of Ichiro Matsui as party representative upon the completion of his term. The party had conducted a survey by postal mail asking local assembly members and other special party members whether an election should be held to choose the next leader. Some 243 people replied it was not necessary, whereas 63 said it was. The party stipulates that the representative can stay in the post until the next general election or unified local elections are held. The board meeting also endorsed the appointment of Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura as vice representative.
