At a press conference on Sept. 6, Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya said that working-level talks between the defense authorities of Japan and South Korea were held in Seoul. The authorities discussed the Japan-South Korea General Security of Military Intelligence Agreement (GSOMIA), and the Japanese side urged South Korea to reconsider its decision to scrap the agreement. Defense authorities at the section chief level participated in the meeting, which took place on Sept. 5 on the fringes of an international conference held in Seoul on Sept. 4–6.
