U.S. public supports American troop presence in Japan

Okinawa Times highlighted the results of a poll of Americans concerning their views on international issues conducted by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. According to the U.S. think tank, some 57% said they favored maintaining or increasing the current level of U.S. military forces in Japan, whereas 40% said the U.S. should either downsize or withdraw its forces. Almost eight out of ten Americans reportedly believed that U.S.-Japan relations strengthen U.S. security. The corresponding figures for Germany and South Korea were 75% and 70%, respectively.
