Komeito leader Natsuo Yamaguchi commented on the fact that 13 of the legislators in the revamped Abe cabinet launched on Sept. 11 are holding cabinet posts for the first time by saying that the reshuffle “represents Prime Minister Abe’s determination to seek out and develop promising talent.” From Komeito, Kazuyoshi Akaba joined the cabinet for the first time as minister for land, infrastructure and transport. Asked why he recommended Akaba for the cabinet post, he answered: “I wanted to expand opportunities for our junior members to play active roles.” He answered questions from reporters at the Prime Minister’s Office (Kantei) after a meeting with Prime Minister Abe.
