Kofu, Yamanashi Pref., Sept. 13 (Jiji Press)–A suspected case of swine fever has been found in Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo, prefectural officials said Friday.
If the infection is confirmed through a state test, it will be the first swine fever case in Yamanashi since Japan had its first swine fever outbreak in 26 years in the central prefecture of Gifu in September last year.
The test result is expected to be announced within Friday.
The suspected case was reported at Yamanashi Meat Logistics Center Co., a slaughterhouse based in the city of Fuefuki.
According to the prefectural officials, the state test is being conducted for four pigs bought into the company on Wednesday.
One of the four was found dead on Thursday morning, while abnormality was detected in organs of the remaining three during meat processing.
The prefectural government has not disclosed where the four pigs were shipped from.
