On Sept. 14, the Okinawa Police Station arrested a 43-year-old captain affiliated with the U.S. 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force headquarters in Okinawa for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) on National Route 330 in Okinawa City’s Chuo district. The charge is violation of the Road Traffic Act (DUI). “I have not drunk any alcohol,” the suspect said, denying the charges.

The allegation is that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol at around 2:20 a.m. on Sept. 14 on a national route in Okinawa City’s Chuo district.

According to the Okinawa Police Station, a police officer on patrol apparently stopped a car that was zigzagging and noticed the smell of alcohol on the suspect, who was in the driver’s seat, during questioning in the line of duty.

Alcohol of more than twice the legal limit of 0.15 mg/liter of exhalation was detected on the suspect’s breath. (Slightly abridged)
