Japan, ROK foreign ministers may meet on sidelines of UN General Assembly next week

NHK reported today that arrangements are being made for Foreign Minister Motegi and ROK Foreign Minister Kang to hold their first meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly next week. Coordination is also underway for Motegi to hold separate meetings with his counterparts from several other countries. If the meeting with Kang materializes, Motegi will reportedly ask the ROK to rectify the situation that runs counter to international law with regard to the requisitioned workers issue and will discuss the GSOMIA and Japan’s tighter control on exports to the ROK. NHK noted that most Foreign Ministry officials do not foresee any immediate improvement in bilateral ties as a result of the talks.
