Hokkaido Corporation, a local trading firm in which the Hokkaido Bank and other local firms have ownership stakes, will embark on a tourism project that specializes in Russia’s Far East region. It will set up a travel agency in Vladivostok as early as in October. With the Japanese and Russian governments pursing joint economic cooperation activities, many Japanese firms are foraying into the Far East. Hokkaido Corporation seeks to tap travel demand for Russia among Japanese people ahead of major travel agencies.
Hokkaido Corporation will become the first Japanese firm to set up a travel agency in Russia’s Far East. The new company will organize and sell tour packages that cater to the tastes of Japanese people in partnership with local travel agencies and airlines in Russia.
