NHK, NTV and TV Asahi reported today that the Foreign Ministry’s Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau Director General Takizaki, ROK Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee, and U.S. Special Envoy for North Korea Biegun met in New York yesterday. They confirmed close cooperation in working for North Korea’s denuclearization. The TV networks said it is believed that they exchanged views on the resumption of U.S.-DPRK working-level talks, which are expected to take place shortly. TV Asahi also reported that earlier in the day Takizaki and Lee held a separate meeting to discuss improvement in bilateral relations after the ROK announced its decision to scrap its GSOMIA with Japan.
