DOD civilian apprehended in Okinawa for DUI

Okinawa Times and Ryukyu Shimpo reported on the arrest of a U.S. military worker at Kadena AB on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol in Yomitan on Sunday, noting that the 56-year-old civilian employee has denied the allegation. The alcohol on his breath was allegedly 3.5 times higher than the permissible level. 

 

In a related story, Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that according to prefectural government data, the number of DUI incidents involving U.S. military community members this year was 27 as of Sept. 29, noting that the corresponding figure for all of last year was 25. The daily said DUI incidents involving U.S. service members and base civilians have been on the rise over the past three years.
