“Specified skilled worker” status only granted to 271 foreigners

It will soon be six months since the revised Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act was enacted on April 1 to accept more foreign workers. As of Sept. 13, 1,283 foreigners applied for the new “specified skilled worker” status and 271 of them were qualified. However, the number of foreigners who were granted the status is only 0.5% of this year’s target of a maximum of 47,550 people. (Abridged)
