Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that Ginowan Mayor Matsukawa asked Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga when they met at the Kantei on Wednesday to set a new deadline for relocating the Futenma Air Station as the previous deadline was in February. According to Matsukawa, Suga said it would be difficult to set another deadline in the absence of cooperation from the Okinawa Prefectural Government. A senior Ginowan government official reportedly said that Suga probably made the comment in view of the prefectural government’s legal actions against the central government over its permit for the landfill work at Henoko. Okinawa Times ran a similar report.
