Asahi and Nikkei took up remarks made at the Diet on Wednesday by Prime Minister Abe regarding the unrest in Hong Kong. He was quoted as saying: “We are calling on relevant parties to exercise restraint and resolve their differences peacefully through dialogue. At the same time, we strongly hope the situation will be brought under control at an early date and Hong Kong’s stability will be maintained.” He made the comment in reply to an opposition lawmaker, who urged the premier to press China to resolve the situation through peaceful means.
