Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that Catherine Fisher, an Australian national who was raped by a U.S. service member in Yokosuka in 2002, held a news conference at the Okinawa Prefectural Government office on Tuesday. She gave a briefing on a speech she delivered at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on June 24. Referring to sexual assaults and other incidents involving U.S. service members in Okinawa, Fisher called on Japan to terminate its Status of Forces Agreement with the United States, which in her opinion nullifies Japanese laws. Fisher plans to deliver a speech in Tokyo next month.
