NHK reported online that the GOJ approved at a cabinet meeting today a bill to establish a new office in the Agriculture Ministry to promote Japan’s exports of farm, forestry, and fishery products. The network speculated that the establishment of the new office is intended to facilitate coordination among different government agencies that handle domestic procedures to comply with the necessary health standards for exports or other issues. The broadcaster noted that the lack of a central authority to work on export procedures has been seen as a major obstacle for expanding exports. The GOJ plans to submit and enact the bill at the current Diet session.
