The Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren, has put together a proposal saying that the excessive regulations that the government is considering applying to IT giants “may dampen technological innovation in the digital sector.” It demanded that the government clearly identify and narrow down the scope of areas that will be subject to regulations and hold thorough debate on the matter as excessive regulations and their ambiguity could put a damper on the digital sector, which acts as a driving force for growth.
The proposal, which will be published on Oct. 15, is a response to the moves of the government to launch discussions on the introduction of stricter rules to prevent IT firms from wrongly collecting and using data. Keidanren Chairman Akihiro Nakanishi will present the group’s position at the Council on Investments for the Future and on other occasions. (Abridged)
