JERA, a fifty-fifty joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings and Chubu Electric Power, announced on Oct. 18 that it has partnered with Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Vietnam’s largest state-run electricity company, in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) business. They will consider cooperating in procuring LNG and developing LNG terminals. JERA will accelerate its growth in Vietnam, where electricity demand is rising, amid the slowdown in Japanese demand for LNG caused by the dwindling birthrate. (Abridged)
