Nagasaki City Mayor Tomihisa Taue plans to invite Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki to next year’s “Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremony,” which is scheduled to be held on Aug. 9, 2020, “Nagasaki A-bomb day.” The mayor disclosed his intention at a regular press conference on Oct. 23. Governor Tamaki has expressed his desire to attend the peace memorial ceremonies that Hiroshima and Nagasaki cities will each hold next year.

At the regular press conference, Mayor Taue emphasized the significance of the local government leaders of Okinawa and the two A-bombed cities all attending the two peace memorial ceremonies in August and the memorial ceremony to commemorate the fallen in the Battle of Okinawa held annually in June. “Okinawa [also] went through a very sad experience related to the war. There is much it can share with Hiroshima and Nagasaki,” he said.
