On Oct. 25, the education ministry released on its special website the final number of universities and colleges which will use privately administered English tests, set to be introduced in standard university entrance examinations from fiscal 2020, for university admissions. According to the ministry, 629 universities and colleges, or 60% of the total, will use the new standardized university admission exam system in the initial year. As for universities alone, however, only 538 schools, or 70% of the total, will use the new system. (Abridged)
