By Kana Takagi

BANGKOK — The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will hold a summit in a suburb of Bangkok, Thailand, on Nov. 2 and 3. The draft chairman’s statement obtained by the Mainichi Shimbun expresses concern over China’s militarization of the South China Sea through land reclamation. At the same time, the draft welcomes China and ASEAN’s joint efforts to draw up a code of conduct to prevent conflicts, thus showing a degree of consideration to China. (Abridged)
