On Nov. 4, the Yokosuka Police arrested a 28-year-old U.S. Navy petty officer second class, who is a resident of Take 5-chome, for violating the Road Traffic Act by driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI).

The allegation is that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol at around 1:10 a.m., on a prefectural road located in Take 2-chome.

According to the Yokosuka Police, the suspect’s car collided with a truck being driven by a 45-year-old man on the opposite side of the road. A 26-year-old woman sitting in the passenger’s seat of the truck suffered a minor injury. The police will also investigate the accident for possible violation of the law against dangerous driving (accidental infliction of injury). The suspect is said to be a crew member on the USS Ronald Reagan, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier based at the U.S. Navy base in Yokosuka. (Slightly abridged)
