All national papers reported extensively that Prime Minister Abe decided yesterday not to host an annual cherry blossom viewing event at Shinjuku Gyoen National Park next spring in the face of a public outcry that it may have been used by the premier and LDP Diet members to entertain supporters from their home constituencies even though the event is supposedly organized for recognizing outstanding service and accomplishments. The opposition bloc has been criticizing Abe for using the public event funded by taxpayer money for personal gain.
