On Nov. 16, the Naha Police Station arrested a 22-year-old lance corporal of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law (for driving under the influence of alcohol) for driving a car under the influence of alcohol (DUI) on National Route 58 in Naha City’s Ameku district. The suspect reportedly denied the charge, saying “I have nothing to say.” The suspect was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in excess of the legal limit (0.15 mg/liter of exhalation) at around 6:55 a.m. on Nov. 16 on a national road in Naha.

According to the Naha Police Station, a police officer on patrol stopped the suspect’s car because it was exceeding the speed limit and repeatedly switching lanes on National Route 58. The police questioned the suspect in the line of duty and noticed that the suspect smelled like alcohol.
