Sankei reported that the Second Coast Guard Global Summit started in Tokyo on Wednesday, saying top coast guard officials from 75 nations participated in the event. The paper wrote that during the two-day conference hosted by the Japan Coast Guard and the Nippon Foundation, the participants will discuss international cooperation in response to large-scale disasters and incidents, piracy, and crimes at sea. The United States Coast Guard, Korea Coast Guard, China Coast Guard, International Maritime Organization, and other organizations are reportedly taking part in the conference. In his opening remarks, Japan Coast Guard Commandant Iwanami said bilateral and regional cooperation is becoming increasingly important in view of the increase in large-scale disasters and illicit activities at sea.
