Two U.S. military personnel arrested on suspicion of violating Road Traffic Law

On Nov. 30, the Naha Police Station arrested a 21-year-old lance corporal affiliated with the U.S. Marine’s Camp Hansen on the spot on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law (for driving under the influence of alcohol). Separately, the police also arrested a 21-year-old lance corporal affiliated with the U.S. Marine’s Camp Foster on the spot on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law (for refusing to take a sobriety test).

 

According to the Naha Police Station, the former suspect was allegedly driving a passenger car under the influence of alcohol on a city road in Naha’s Kumoji district at around 5:20 a.m. on Nov. 30. About three times the permissible level of alcohol was detected on the suspect’s breath. The suspect has denied the charges, saying, “I didn’t drive.”

 

The latter suspect allegedly refused a police request to take a sobriety test at around 6:35 a.m. on Nov. 30. At the time, the suspect was driving a passenger car on a city road in the Kumoji district in Naha City. The suspect has denied the charges, saying: “I drove my friend home. I didn’t do anything wrong.” (Slightly abridged)
