The environmental department of the Okinawa prefectural government conducted water quality tests to identify the levels of organofluoric compounds around U.S. military bases in August and September. Of the 18 locations surveyed, 14 were found to have total amounts of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) that exceeded the U.S.’s lifetime health advisory value (70 nanograms per liter). The environmental department posted the results of the water quality tests on its official website on Dec. 3. (Abridged)
